ARRANKOBA

ARRANKOBA was founded in 1982 in the heart of the fishing port of Ondarroa by the Ondarroa and Lekeitio Fishermen’s Guilds. A company dedicated to the purchase, freezing, processing and marketing of fish caught off the coast of the Cantabrian Sea, above all from small-scale inshore boats.

Expansion of the product portfolio

After the initial years of implementation and establishment of its product in a quality wholesale market, ARRANKOBA evaluated the possibilities of foreign markets and expanded its product portfolio.

Jump to the International Market

Since 2000, the company has been able to establish itself in this market and gradually grow at the same pace as its production capacity and development.

Frigoríficos de Bermeo S.L.

The year 2009 saw the opening of the second freezing plant located in Mundaka: Frigoríficos de Bermeo S.L. This is an important milestone in the history of ARRANKOBA, making it possible to take the production leap it needs, in a project that is as attractive as it is ambitious This project would not be possible without the support of two strategic partners who accompany us on this new journey. The sum of the two freezing plants enables a freezing capacity of more than 150 tonnes of fish per day and frozen storage capacity for more than 4,500 tonnes.

MSC Chain of custody

ARRANKOBA is committed to the sustainability of marine resources and careful fishing practices with the sea and the different species of fish. In 2017 it was certified with the MSC Chain of Custody standard, thus guaranteeing the traceability of products from sustainable fisheries with MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certification.

Renewal of ARRANKOBA

Two years later, in 2018, ARRANKOBA completely renovated the Ondarroa plant’s refrigeration installation, installing the most advanced forced-air tunnel freezing system, and once again guaranteeing its firm commitment to the quality of the frozen products it sells.
